Week 2 - Exploring news websites

1.     Explore http://www.time.com/time/, http://www.cnn.com/ and http://www.nytimes.com/ and answer the following questions.
What do you find on the home page? Do you notice anything special?
What draws the most attention from you on the home page?
What are common categories/ sections presented beside the home page?
What are some of the differences between CNN and the New York Times?
2.     We are going to read some articles throughout the course, what topics are you interested in?

    I have found that I don’t understand some of the titles. I saw that the content of these sites are similar as Vietnamese sites.
    *What draws the most attention from you on the home page?
    Video and pictures. Of course :D But I also pay attention to some hot news they are focused.
    *What are common categories/ sections presented beside the home page?
    - With international site like CNN, common categories are World, World Sport,Video, Photo, Business, Entertainment, Tech, Travel …
    - With internal of country sites like The New York times, these sections are like they are in Vietnamese sites: Business, Technology, Science, Art, Sport, Jobs, Health, Politics, …
    *What are some of the differences between CNN and the New York Times?
    The New York Times has many articles about very small usual events. But CNN focuses on hot big international events.
    *We are going to read some articles throughout the course, what topics are you interested in?
    Business, Politics, Technology, Art, …

    There of them have more Categories.
    Headline has different colour and font.

    What draws the most attention from you on the home page?
    The biggest photo or the banner.

    What are other categories/ sections presented apart from the home page?
    CNN: Area, Economic, Sport..
    Time: US and ... like CNN
    NY Time:Style and travel is different

    What are some of the differences between CNN and the New York Times?
    NYTime has NYtime reader- because they publish newspaper,too
    CNN: it has edition for each area

    We are going to read some articles throughout the course, what topics are you interested in?
    I like reading Entertainment,Sport and Region

    On the home page, I find headlines and the links of fulltext articles. The articles are classified by themes such as: politics, business, sport, science…
    2. What draws the most attention from you on the home page?
    What draw my attention the most are headlines, pictures, video clips and advertisements.
    3. What are other categories/ sections presented apart from the home page?
    From the home page, the hottest topics and news are presented. It mainly demonstrates themes that the e-newspaper focuses on.
    4. What are some of the differences between CNN and the New York Times?
    Themes on CNN are also divided by regions: Middle East, Latin America, U.S., Asia… CNN seems to focus more on global news while the New York Times focuses on the U.S. news.
